Editing an event

Last reviewed 2026-05-15 · About a 2 minute read

Plans change. The host of an event can edit any part of it any time before the event starts.

Who can edit

Only the original organizer (the person who created the event) can edit it. Group admins do not get edit rights for events hosted in their group. Platform admins can also edit, using a separate "Platform admin controls" panel on the event page.

How to edit

Open the event's page. As the organizer, you'll see an Organizer controls card with an Edit button — click it. The edit page opens as a single form (not the stepper) with all the fields filled in. Change what you need to and click Save Changes.

What attendees see

There's no automatic email when you edit an event. Attendees who visit the event page see the updated details right away, but they won't be notified of the change. For anything important (a new date, a new address, a new video link) post in the relevant city group, or use the Message attendees button on the event page to send a note to the people who already RSVP'd.

Recurring locations

Each date at a recurring location is its own event — editing one date doesn't ask about siblings, and never changes the others. If a permanent change to the time or place is needed, you'll have to update each date one by one (or cancel the rest and create a new Recurring Location with the new settings).

Switching from in-person to virtual

You can change the format from the edit page. RSVPs stay in place — attendees don't need to re-RSVP. As above, no automatic email goes out, so flag the change in a message.

Last-minute changes

For changes within an hour or two of the event, definitely message attendees from the event page so they catch the update before they head out.
