Reporting content that breaks the rules

Last reviewed 2026-05-16 · About a 2 minute read

If you see content on Forever Canadian that breaks our rules, report it. Reports go to moderators, not to the person who posted.

What can be reported

Two surfaces have a Report option directly on the post:

  • Feed posts — open the three-dot menu at the top-right of any post and pick Report post.
  • Group posts — same three-dot menu inside any group. Pick Report post. If you've already reported a post in a group, the option shows Already reported instead — you can report a post once.

You need to be signed in to report. There's no anonymous reporting path.

What doesn't have a Report option

Comments, direct messages, and the articles on the news feed don't have a per-item Report button right now. If something on one of those surfaces needs a moderator's attention, contact support directly — include the link to the page and a short description of what's wrong.

The report dialog

Feed posts and group posts each open a slightly different dialog when you pick Report post:

  • Feed posts — a single dropdown of reasons plus an optional comment box.
  • Group posts — a list of choices (Spam, Harassment, Off-topic, Misinformation, Other) plus an optional note. Picking Other requires a short note describing the issue.

Pick the closest reason and add a sentence or two of context if it helps. The moderator reading the report will look at the content directly.

What's a "rule break"?

The volunteer agreement and our community guidelines spell out what's not allowed — harassment, hate speech, spam, impersonation, threats, and a few other things. If you're unsure, lean toward reporting; reviewing a borderline report is quick.

What we do with it

A moderator reviews every report — usually within one business day. The outcome is one of: remove the content, edit it (which adds an "edited by a platform moderator" badge), warn the author, suspend the account, or close the report.

Will the author know I reported them?

No. The author isn't told who reported a post. They may receive a separate notification if their content is edited or removed, but it never names you.

Emergencies

This site isn't the right place for an urgent safety concern. If someone is in danger, call your local emergency number first.
