Sending group invitations

Last reviewed 2026-05-16 · About a 2 minute read

Inviting people is how a group grows. Group invitations work inside the site — you can only invite people who already have a Forever Canadian account. (To invite someone who isn't signed up yet, use the standalone email invitation flow described in Inviting someone by email.)

Step 1 — Open the group

Click the group's name from your sidebar.

Step 2 — Open the invite dialog

In the group's top-right header, click the person-add icon (tooltip Invite to group if you're an admin or creator, or Invite connections if you're a regular member).

Step 3 — Pick who to invite

What you see depends on your role:

  • Regular members see a list of your existing connections. Type to filter the list, then click Invite beside anyone you want to add. If you have no connections yet, the dialog will prompt you to add some first.
  • Admins and the creator see a site-wide search. Type at least a few letters of someone's name and pick them from the results. Each result is tagged with its state — eligible, already a member, pending invitation, or you — so you only spend an invitation on people who can actually accept.

Cancelling a pending invitation

Open the group's Admin panel (the shield icon in the group header, or /groups/[groupId]/admin) and switch to the Pending invitations tab. Click the Cancel button on the row you want to pull back; a quick confirmation appears before the cancel goes through.

A friendly nudge

After sending an invitation, send a short message too — many people miss invitation emails until a friend mentions it.
