Inviting a friend by email

Last reviewed 2026-05-15 · About a 2 minute read

You can invite friends, family, and neighbours to join Forever Canadian even if they don't have an account yet.

How to send an invite

Open your Connections page from the sidebar. Scroll to the Invitations section. You'll see a small Invite a Friend card with the words "Send an invitation now" — click it. A dialog opens asking for one thing: your friend's email address. Type it in and click Send Invitation Now.

What they see

The email comes from us, mentions you by name, and has the subject line "Your Name is inviting you to join Forever Canadian." Inside, there's a big Accept Invitation & Join Now button and a short 6-step walkthrough of how to sign up. Clicking the button opens a sign-up form with their email already filled in.

How many invites do I have?

Each volunteer starts with 5 invites. Just above the invitation cards, the page shows "X of Y invitations used — N remaining" so you always know where you stand.

Running low?

Send a quick message to support to ask for more. We're happy to top up volunteers who are actively recruiting in their area.

Cancelling an invite

If you sent an invite by mistake, you can pull it back yourself. Find the pending invitation card on the Invitations section. There's a small X icon in the top-right corner — hover and you'll see the tooltip "Retract invitation." Click it and the link stops working.

Sending a reminder

The pending invitation card also has a Send Reminder button that re-sends the invite. After you click it, the button greys out for 24 hours so you can't accidentally spam your friend.

When the address already has an account

If the email you enter already belongs to a Forever Canadian member, the dialog quietly converts your invite into a connection request instead — you'll see a short success message explaining what happened. No invite is used up.

If your friend opts out

Each invitation email has an Unsubscribe link. If your friend clicks it, future invites to that address are skipped silently.

Group invites are different

Inviting someone to join a specific group is a separate flow. See the sending-group-invitations help article for that.
