Forever Canadian message and strategy

Last reviewed 2026-07-02 · About a 3 minute read

The backgrounder gives volunteers a shared way to talk about why Forever Canadian exists and what the movement is trying to do.

The core message

The message starts with pride. The backgrounder says proud Albertans are proud Canadians: kind, tough, neighbourly people who belong to both Alberta and Canada.

It also says Albertans do not quit when things get difficult. The message is that Alberta's future is better served by working harder inside Canada, not by walking away from it.

The backgrounder warns that separation would put important things at risk, including citizenship, passports, the freedom to move across Canada, pipelines, businesses, investment, trade agreements, military bases, health care, and talented people.

It also argues that a separate Alberta would not be truly independent, would be vulnerable to outside pressure, and would be poorer than separatists promise. The closing message is unity: Canada is not perfect, but the better answer is to lead and build a stronger country together.

The strategy

The backgrounder describes four parts to the strategy.

First is the ground game. Forever Canadian wants volunteers to identify supporters and get out the vote, with a goal of building a large supporter base of people who would vote to keep Alberta in Canada.

Second is the air game. The backgrounder lists social media, web content, speaking engagements, media interviews, advertising, billboards, lawn signs, and the Unity Bus Tour as ways to inspire pride in Canada and answer separatist claims.

Third is partners and allies. The backgrounder names a partnership with ACFA, Alberta's official Francophonie voice, and says the campaign wants to work through other groups and leaders to reach more people.

Fourth is funding and organizational capacity. The backgrounder says the campaign needs major fundraising, a non-profit structure under the Societies Act, and policies, processes, and financial controls that support the work.

How volunteers can help

The backgrounder groups volunteer actions into four simple areas:

  • Fundraise by holding events or donating.
  • Spread the word with friends, family, networks, clubs, community groups, MLAs, and the Forever Canadian website.
  • Stand up publicly through letters, merchandise, lapel pins, or a Canadian flag.
  • Support the ground game by finding local organizers and helping the campaign's social media reach more people.

You do not need to memorize every line. The main idea is simple: stay positive, stay grounded, and help more Albertans hear why Forever Canadian believes Alberta should remain in Canada.
