When a moderator edits or removes content

Last reviewed 2026-05-16 · About a 2 minute read

Platform moderators occasionally edit or remove content that breaks our rules — usually after a member's report. Here's what each action looks like.

"edited by a platform moderator"

Sometimes a post or comment is mostly fine but has a section that crosses the line. A moderator can rewrite the text.

When they do, a small edited by a platform moderator badge appears underneath the post or comment. Anyone reading it can see the badge. The badge deliberately doesn't name the specific moderator — it just signals that the change wasn't the author's.

If a moderator edits something you wrote, you get an in-app notification telling you a moderator changed your content. These moderation notifications can't be turned off — you'll always be told. The notification doesn't show a side-by-side of the old and new text; what you'll see is the current text plus the badge.

Removed content

For more serious problems, a moderator removes the post or comment entirely. There's no "removed" placeholder left in its place — the post simply disappears from the list.

If a moderator removes something you wrote, you get a notification telling you it was taken down.

Cancelled events

When a moderator cancels an event, the event is taken down. If you'd RSVPed to it, you'll see a notification that an event you RSVPed to was cancelled by a platform moderator — and any reason the moderator added is included in the notification itself. If you visit the event link later, the page lets you know the event is no longer available.

Why we tell the author

Quiet enforcement breeds confusion. Telling the author that their content was changed or removed gives them a chance to reflect or appeal.

Disagreeing with a moderation decision

If you think your content was edited or removed unfairly, contact support and tell us which post and what you'd like re-examined. A different moderator will take a look.

Patterns vs. one-offs

A single edit or removal isn't a big deal — it's how the community keeps standards. Repeated rule-breaks lead to a warning, then a temporary suspension, then a permanent removal from the site.
