Your address and what we use it for

Last reviewed 2026-05-15 · About a 2 minute read

When you fill in your profile, we ask for your home address. Here's why, and what's visible to who.

Why we ask

Your address tells the site which Alberta city is closest to you and which events happen near where you live. The events sidebar gets a shortcut to your city's events automatically. Without an address, it has to guess, and it often guesses wrong.

What other volunteers see

Other volunteers see your city only — never your street address or postal code. Group leaders and admins on our team can see more detail when they need to, but only when there's a clear reason (for example, sending you a poster in the mail).

How to change your address

Open your profile from the sidebar. Find the Address card and click the small pencil icon in the top-right corner. You can update the street address, city, and postal code. The province is locked to Alberta — Forever Canadian is Alberta-only for now. Postal codes need to be Alberta postal codes too (anything starting with T).

When you're done, press Save Changes.

Mailing address

If you'd like posters or other physical mail to go to a different address (a PO box, for example), tick Mailing address is different from residential in the edit form. A second block opens for the mailing address.

What if I move?

Update your address right away so the events shortcut and event list match your new location. You'll need to switch cities through your profile — moving doesn't automatically join you to a new group.

Rural address?

If you don't have a street address, choose the Rural option at the top of the edit form. That lets you enter a 911 address and skip the postal code. The form will guide you through the rest.

If something looks wrong after saving, press No, this didn't help below to send us a message.
