Joining a group
Joining a group is one click. Here's what happens after.
Step 1 — Open the group
Click the group's name from the Groups page or from a search result.
Step 2 — Click Join
If the group is open, there's a Join Group button at the top of its page (or just Join on the smaller card in the list). Click it. You're in right away.
What you'll see right after
Once you're a member, the in-group banner disappears and the group's posts are visible to you. You'll see them whenever you open the group from the Groups page in the sidebar. They don't appear in your main feed — group conversation stays inside the group. A small unread badge on the Groups sidebar item lets you know when there's something new.
What happens to your notifications
You'll start getting in-app notifications for new posts and comments in the group. You can fine-tune which categories email you and which stay in-app only from the Notification Settings page.
Invite-only groups
Invite-only groups don't have a Join button. You'll see an Invite Only badge on the card and on the group's page. To get in, ask a current member or the group's creator to invite you.
What about the group's creator and admins
When you join, the group's leaders are notified. They sometimes send a short welcome message — that's a good thing to expect, not something you need to chase.
Leaving later
You can leave any group from inside it any time. There's a separate help article on that.
